How to Build up New Believers

It is very important to build up new believers. Jesus is not concerned about whether people have converted, but he has compassion on them as sheep without a shepherd, living in a spirit of poverty and desperation. New believers need to be shepherded. Conversion to faith is only 5% of the work, and the other 95% is the shepherding work after conversion.

1. To be sure of his salvation

Romans 10:9 tells us that salvation includes believing with the heart and confessing with the mouth. To believe in the heart is to confess before God that God has established Jesus as the Christ and Savior by raising Him from the dead. To confess with the mouth is to acknowledge in front of people that Jesus, whom everyone despises and rejects, is the Lord of all. These two are the conditions for our justification and salvation.

2. Lead him to God

In the world, many people lead others to follow themselves. But we are the only ones who lead others to God. A builder of life must build up the disciple's dependence on God (Colossians 1:28) instead of becoming a barricade between him and God.

3. Be a Role Model of Discipleship

How did Jesus teach his disciples? The first is to be humble, not to think that you are noble and superior, and the second is to serve, to serve everyone first and foremost. (John 13:13)
Do we need to be perfect to be a model for others? 1 Corinthians 11:1 says, "Imitate me, as I imitate Christ." Paul means that, like him, we should be conscious of our inadequacy and continue to imitate Christ, so that Christ will be magnified in us.

4. Sow seeds of vision

Jesus sowed the seeds of vision on Peter, calling him to catch people like a fish (Matthew 4:19), and also gave him the vision to build the church (Matthew 16:18). Jesus knew that Peter would fall, but He had faith in Him because He foresaw that He would turn around and grow. We must also see the good in people with a resurrected eyesight and lead them to see God's vision. Vision comes from our relationship with God. If we correctly establish a relationship with God, we will receive visions. If we receive visions, our relationship with God will also be strengthened.

5. Encourage actions

In Luke 10:1-6, Jesus sent his disciples out. When the disciples returned, they experienced the authority and power given by the Lord, and felt the excitement of doing God's will. Building up a new believer is not just about feeding and caring for him, but also building up his confidence to act.

6. Distribute food on time

Most new believers will set unrealistic goals for themselves, such as memorizing four verses a day, reading the Bible for three hours, etc. You need to set for him a spiritual map for his growth. First understand where he is now and where he is going. Then set a series of small goals and do them step by step. You can also use some ready-made materials to help. you.

7. Build yourself first

The greatest benefit of being a builder of life is to have yourself being built up. 1 Tim. 4:16 indicates that edifiers should be cautious in their words and deeds. Col. 4:12 implies that edifiers will also build up their own faith. James 1:5 mentions that edifiers often ask God for wisdom. Therefore, to build up others, you must first build yourself up, and he has become a role model for others.
